Virtual memory is an important aspect of your system's performance. Virtual memory is simply a portion on Hard Disk reserved by RAM to assist it in its operations. That is why virtual memory is also called virtual RAM. If the virtual memory size is low then windows displays a message that 'Virtual memory is too low'. By increasing virtual memory size, we get a little boost in system performance. This tutorial is about increasing the virtual memory or PageFile size in Windows8.

STEP 1

Right click on the Computer icon located on the desktop or from Start Menu and click on Properties

STEP 2

In the System Properties window, click on Advanced System Settings

STEP 3

Within the Advanced tab and Performance area, click on Settings.

STEP 4

Go to Advanced tab. There you can see the Paging size of your virtual memory. Click on Change

STEP 5

There opens Virtual Memory settings. Click on Custom size and specify the size. You can input any value but it should be within the limit of 3x of physical RAM size. Here I am having 2 GB of RAM installed on my computer. So I specified 2500 MB as initial size and 3000 MB as Maximum allowed size. You can also input the recommended size displayed below the Custom size grid.
